#SMCS18 : My Personal Experience and Thoughts

Whether you're a retailer, a photographer, a stylist, a bank or even an educational institute, having an online presence is crucial in a time where people spend a lot of time online. Every year on June 30th, since Mashable launched it back in 2010, we celebrate the International Social Media Day.

Video content seems to be doing way better than photo content. The reason behind that is more than just clear. People enjoy watching moving content which explains itself, rather than staring at a picture, trying to figure out what the creator(s) is (are) trying to say with it.

8 Days of Pelelu Tepu; Day 8

8 Days of Pelelu Tepu; Day 8

Since today is the day I head back home, I decided to wake up late and shower late. Actually, I woke at 6 but went back to sleep.  Around 8 I finally managed to roll — yeah I said “roll" — out of my hammock and took a bath. Everything went into my backpack and suitcase. The only thing I kept out was my camera. I mean, duh, I need images.

Most of the goals on our to-do list for research here in Tepu are checked, so I had quite a lot of free time on my hands.I had to be creative with how I wanted to spend all this time.

Who even wakes up at 2:00 AM when you went to bed at 11:30 PM? I do, especially when your intoxicated roommate snores and chants like a Native-American. And to top it off, at exactly 2:45 AM I hear someone running on slippers, only to find out it was my boss (who I traveled with).

8 Days of Pelelu Tepu; Day 5

S U N D A Y, the only day where I wondered what in the world I’d do. This morning, I didn’t really feel like getting up early. In fact, it's Sunday. Even then, I was among the first to be up and heading for a bath. I forgot to mention in my first post that Sergio, one of the guys of the ACT (Amazon Conservation Team), told us where the village got its name from. When the first villagers arrived at the river, they saw a Tortoise (Pelelu) on the top of a rock (Tepu) which kind of looks like an island. It’s easy to climb on top, so it's not really an island.

8 Days of Pelelu Tepu; Day 4

They’re awake before we are. They’re up before the sun is. Roosters, they start very early by letting their calls out in the dark cold morning. As I woke up to their sound, I looked around to be aware of my surroundings. It was still dark and I needed to go to the bathroom very bad.

8 Days of Pelelu Tepu; Day 3

8 Days of Pelelu Tepu; Day 3

Yesterday, I woke up to the sound of my alarm. Today I woke up to the call of my bladder to be emptied. It was dark, misty, and I was the only one awake. I headed to the river to take a bath and brush my teeth. Yeah, that's how we roll in Tepu.

8 Days of Pelelu Tepu; Day 1

March 7th, 2018, 11:27 AM, Paramaribo, Suriname; we were supposed to be in the air by now. But I already expected that we'd be departing a while later than planned. We're off to Pelelu Tepu, a Native-American village in the southern parts of Suriname. Together with the head of our organization, I'm leaving to do some research on the Trio tribes as part of our new exhibition.
